Aquidneck Island Drop Off Hub Spots

We are excited to announce the opening of 5 Hubspot food scrap dropoff locations. This is a service that we inherited from Aquidneck Community Table, who has been operating a drop off food scrap option at the Newport Farmer’s Market. We are thrilled to be able to offer this service and plan to expand the service throughout many parts of Rhode Island. We are thankful for ACT laying the groundwork for this operation and getting over 160 residents of Aquidneck Island started on proper food scrap disposal.

These Hub Spot’s will be equipped with multiple 48 gallon bins, each locked with a code that is given to the participant once they sign up. These bin will be emptied regularly by the help of our partners at The Compost Plant. The food scraps will be brought to Rhode Island Nurseries to begin the process of composting, thus avoiding the Central Landfill in Johnston.

Unlike our curbside collections program, Hub Spot participants must use their own buckets for the hauling (you can purchase a Rhodeside Revival Bin on our website). It will be the responsibility of the participant to keep their bin clean.

For now the plan is to start with 5 Hub Spot locations throughout the Aquidneck Island area. These locations will include one Hub Spot in Jamestown, Bristol, Newport and two locations in Portsmouth. The details on these exact locations will be updated soon.

The Healthy Soils Healthy Seas subsidized rate will also apply to these locations, dropping the original price of $120/year down to $70. Please click the link below to find out more about the Healthy Soils, Healthy Seas initiative and to get involved: Cleanoceanaccess.
